“DOD is more than a transport idea. It is about helping people keep their independence, supporting families when they need assistance, and creating flexible opportunities for qualified drivers.”

With experience in business management, leadership and customer service, Sagirmohammad recognised a practical gap in how people move: owning a vehicle does not always mean being able, available or comfortable enough to drive it. He founded DOD to connect eligible vehicles with verified driving capability while supporting independence, families, businesses and flexible driver opportunities.

01About DODWhat is Drivers on Demand?

Drivers on Demand (DOD) is a New Zealand platform preparing to connect individuals and businesses with verified, suitably licensed drivers for eligible vehicles they provide. DOD does not supply the vehicle.

02BookingsCan I request a driver now or schedule ahead?

The planned service supports on-demand and scheduled bookings, subject to driver availability. Customers will be able to choose a one-way journey or an hourly booking and review the trip details before confirming.

03VehiclesWhat condition must my vehicle be in?

The vehicle provider must ensure the vehicle is safe, roadworthy, registered, warranted where required and legally suitable for the journey. Accurate vehicle details must be supplied so DOD can match the booking to an appropriately licensed driver.

04InsuranceDoes my vehicle need insurance?

Yes. The customer or business must hold appropriate vehicle insurance that permits the arranged driver and intended use. Before booking, check your policy and any conditions, exclusions or excess that may apply.

05Driver checksHow will DOD verify drivers?

DOD's planned onboarding includes identity, right-to-work, licence-status and applicable criminal-history checks. Passenger drivers must hold the correct full licence class, a current P endorsement and an NZTA driver ID card, with a verified driver-owned SPSL or written authorisation under DOD's valid SPSL. Small passenger vehicles have no more than 12 seats including the driver, so at most 11 passengers. Passenger access requires current, satisfactory evidence and DOD approval.

06SafetyWhat happens if the driver identifies a vehicle concern?

The journey should not begin if a safety, legal or eligibility concern cannot be resolved. The driver and customer should record the issue in the appropriate support channel and follow DOD's vehicle and incident procedures.

07PaymentsHow will payment and pricing work?

DOD plans to process payments securely within the app. The applicable booking price, fees, GST treatment, return arrangement and cancellation terms will be shown before confirmation. Final launch rates have not yet been published.

08FamiliesCan I arrange a driver for a family member?

The planned service allows an eligible person to help arrange a journey for a family member, provided the passenger and vehicle owner are authorised and informed, and all passenger, vehicle, accessibility and contact details are accurate.

09BusinessCan a business book drivers for company vehicles?

DOD plans to launch approved business services alongside personal services. Business bookings will depend on the vehicle, journey, insurance, driver qualifications and any operational or site-specific requirements.

10DriversDo drivers need to provide their own vehicle?

No. DOD is designed around customer- or business-provided vehicles. Drivers bring their verified driving eligibility, experience and professionalism, and are matched only to suitable booking requirements.

11AvailabilityWhere and when will DOD launch?

DOD is preparing to launch personal and business services together in Auckland on 2 November 2026, subject to product alignment, compliance and operational readiness. Wider New Zealand expansion will be considered later.
